For more than 35 years, the ASC A92 Aerial Platforms Committee has been developing safety guides for the aerial platform industry. The Scaffold Industry Association serves as the Secretariat for the ASC A92, which is an Accredited Standards Developer of the American National Standards Institute.

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) coordinates the U.S. voluntary consensus standards system, providing a neutral forum for the development of policies on standard issues and serves as a regulator for standards development and conformity assessment programs and processes. The SIA has been accredited according to the ANSI consensus procedures to develop American National Standards.

The ASC A92 has six current American National Standards:

A92.2 for Vehicle-Mounted Rotating and Elevating Work Platforms

A92.3 for Manually Propelled Elevating Work Platforms

A92.5 Boom-Supported Elevating Work Platforms

A92.6 Self-Propelled Elevating Work Platforms

A92.8 Vehicle-Mounted Bridge Inspection and Maintenance Devices

A92.10 Transport Platforms

In addition to the current American National Standards, the ASC A92 has developed standards for A92.7 Airline Ground Support Vehicle-Mounted Vertical Lift Devices and A92.9 Mast-Climbing Work Platforms. These two standards are not current American National Standards, however, are undergoing revision to be a candidate for approval as an American National Standard.
